Welcome To Natures Edge Campground. We are a Family, Environment & Nature Orientated Friendly Campground. Located on 50 acres in the middle of New Zealands Largest Scenic Reserve alongside the pristine Waioeka River.

Our focus is having a safe natural setting so people can get back to nature through camping & activity in this natural pristine environment.

Camp sites consist of a spacious 12 meter width most with river view & as much room as you need deep. There is ample room for tents, caravans, motor-homes etc as we have over 50 acres to camp. The camp site is 500 meters off the road so there is no traffic noise & secure especially compared to similar remote DOC sites! The site is available for families, couples, schools & adult supervised youth groups. We DO NOT have groups of unsupervised young people here or tolerate drunken behaviour at anytime. Surrounded by numerous native birds where you go to sleep with the sound of the morporks & awake with the sounds of nature around you! The campground has basic "get back to nature" amenities. There is plenty of pure fresh running drinking water outlets available. Regularly cleaned flush toilets during the Xmas - New Years period (otherwise clean long drops), several basins to wash dishes & hands. Our toilets are cleaned regularly. There is an enclosed shower stall with cold running water & a pulley to hang a solar shower. We DO NOT have, rubbish collection, kitchen facilities, laundry, TV, games room or anything that's requires electricity. Its real "get back to nature' camping here.

We are sheltered from the wind & blowing sand compared to the beach & don't have the fear of sharks, rip currents, tsunamis, false tsunamis warnings, biting crabs, stinging jelli fish, sting-rays, salt water that dries out & ages your skin and that gets everywhere! You can actually relax when your kids are in the water here! According to Environment B.O.P the Waioeka River maximum temperature over the last 12 months is approx 3 degrees warmer than the local beaches! We do have numerous swimming holes with pure crystal clear slow moving water. Much safer than the unpredictable ocean rip currents & far healthier than chemical/body waste tainted swimming pools! Even though it feels like we are in the middle of nowhere we are only 10 minutes away from the town of Opotiki that has all your supplies & amenities.

Rates Per Day/Payments:
Campers: 16 years & over $10.00. 15 years & under stay FREE. Up to 2 children stay free per paying adult. Additional children $5.00 each. Payment is by cash upon arrival or internet banking prior to arrival.

Environmental/Family Friendly Campground:
We are a environment friendly campground with no powered sites. We DO NOT allow hunting or burning of rubbish here. Unlike other campgrounds we don't use bleach or harsh chemicals as we have no common areas that attract dangerous germs from possibly unhygienic fellow campers. We have a no noise policy from 10pm to 10am & on New Years Eve from 1am - 10am.

Marquee for hire:
There is a 6m x 8m marquee for hire from the local Lions Club & they will put it up & take it down as part of the service. It's excellent for larger groups & gives groups a main dining & social covered area. It can be seen in the Photo Gallery & I will give you the name & number of the person to call who is responsible for its hire, set up & take down.

Dogs:
Dogs owners have designated camping, river access & dog walking areas & adhere to dog owners guidelines.

When We Are Open/Bookings:
We are open to the general public without a booking from December 24th to the second Sunday in January. All other times bookings are essential & for larger groups only.

Bring if you have:
If you have your own kayaks, life jackets, bikes, rubbish bags with ties, fire extinguisher, first aid kit bring them. You'll need to bring your own toilet paper & don't forget the bug spray for sandflies.

Reference from Chris Barfoot, Family Camp Organiser, Alpine Sports Club:
We have no hesitation in recommending the camping site to all those who like us require only simple facilities and love to enjoy the natural amenities of bush, river, mountains and sea. In the forty one camps the club has organised, this site has provided one of the most memorable experiences. See our Photo Gallery...
